Rescue

We have taken in several horses over the years, that are unwanted, unfed, and unloved.  As per request, I am posting this page.  I will only be placing a couple of horses on this page for information purposes only.  We only ask for money for our rescues to prevent them from being returned to the sale so someone can make a quick buck off of a horse; you would be surprised at how many people call for free horses that just happen to be the same people that we see at the auction every month selling horses for slaughter.  If you are truly the right person for the horse, and can pass our screening, we may bring the horse to you at no cost.

Peaches

We found her at the auction recently.  There were about 60 or 70 horses that went to slaughter, some fairly decent ones.  Please get the word out that horses can be bought for around $300 right now at the Rio Grande classic auction in El Paso.  We really cannot afford to take in any more, but my sister is footing the bill and we did have some money come in from the saddles we sold on E-bay.  Peaches is 19 years old.  She was extremely lethargic, had difficulty on her back legs because of weakness, and her hipbones and ribs are very pronounced.  The getleman that brought her to the auction said he saw her unloaded from a trailer that wasn't even safe enough for goats and put her on a feed lot for several weeks to gain some weight before bring her to El Paso.  SHe has a lot of heart and is a sweetheart to handle.  Scroll down for updated pictures from 9/18/07.

She is looking much better now, and the weakness in her back legs is all but gone.  She is now being lightly ridden, and ready for a new home.  She has had her feet trimmed, teeth floated, vaccinated, and dewormed, not to mention fed properly.  She has recently been given to a family who loves her.

Kiwi was brought home in September of 2005 as a 2 day old orphan colt,  He was nursed by our mare Seneca for about a month, and nursed through pneumonia.  He was raised in the back yard, and now has a new home in Chapparral, NM.   He will be a great gymkhana pony.  The nice thing about being raised by hand, though, is a great personality, and a few tricks like lay down.  He never was much to look at, though.  His back legs straightened out, fortunately.  It is a real common problem for young colts to be "doggied" in the back from inadequate nutrition, a good reason not to rip babies off their mommas too soon.  After 18 months of vet bills, corrective trimming, and equine Junior he is good to go.

Owning a horse requires a lot of time, money, patience, and love.  We have encountered a number of horses over the years that are neglected out of much needed feed, farrier, vet care, etc.  We have brought home several in severe need of feed and vet care.  We will consider taking in more as we sell some of the others to make some room.

Jack was bought at an auction for $80, but was going to the slaughter house.  He was only a month old. He also required a lot of vet trips for care due to early weaning. We found a home for him last year, but they were kind enough to bring him back when they could no longer care for him.  His permanent home is now in Chapparal.  Now that he is old enough, and willing to ride, he should never go to slaughter, as he was a 2 year old in this picture just prior to going to his new home.

Rose was purchased at auction, as one of our first projects.  She was severely underweight, and needed a lot of vet trips for teeth floating and pneumonia.  We had her for several months before a gentleman with pasture to graze her on purchased her.  She had a wonderful heart, and was willing to please.
